Educational Psychologist in Private Practice

My Work

Assessment, intervention & consultation

As an educational psychologist working in private practice my work can be commissioned by parents, teachers, students, schools and universities. I usually complete assessments at my office, which is located in Coleford in the Forest of Dean, although I have regular commitments to  a dyslexia centre. The focus of my assessment work is to discover the individual's strengths and to identify any areas of difficulty, to use the assessment profile to draw conclusions and suggest methods of support. Intervention work includes working with children, students, teachers and parents to aid the development of appropriate support strategies, whilst consultation and coaching sessions can be a helpful problem-solving process.

Assessment process

The assessment process is always discussed and agreed prior to any work being undertaken.
A typical assessment might include:
  • initial consultation
  • gathering of background information
  • individual assessment work covering, for example, a cognitive assessment (learning ability), literacy skills, numeracy skills
  • verbal feedback and discussion
  • full written report within 2 weeks of the assessment
The cost of assessments varies depending on the requirements and is agreed prior to proceeding with any individual assessment work. Charges usually range between £660 and £960.

Additional options

There are other options avaiable depending on the nature of the concern, including:
Classroom observation
